Konnichiwa! From Japan
I designed and illustrated this postcard series to showcase the three prefectures in Japan where Appalachian State University students can study abroad. The project was inspired by the handwritten letters my grandmother sent me from abroad as a child. I aimed to capture the warmth and nostalgia of written communication — something text messaging and emailing cannot replicate. I researched each prefecture’s unique culture and character and used this research to create postcard designs representing them. The designs are subtly influenced by Japanese pop art and the distinctive offset printing aesthetic of risograph.
